Seniors
Ageing is a normal process in the development of a person, which we should learn to accept and live happily with. Not so much ageing itself, but behavioural and relationship-related problems, physical deficits and illnesses, losses of our loved ones and passivity are the main reasons for the typical problems of this age group. A good psychological therapy for seniors attempts to identify if such problems exist and to help the patient live a more pleasant life. Some common psychological disorders among seniors are: Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, specific phobias, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress, panic disorder) Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder, vacuum of vitality, apathy, low self-esteem etc.)
Substance abuse (tobacco, cocaine, alcohol addictions)
Other addictions (gambling, sex, internet etc.)
Schizophrenia and other types of psychotic disorders
Lack of social skills (shyness, fear to speak in public, submissiveness, aggressiveness etc.)
Eating disorders (obesity, bulimia, anorexia…..)
Mourning of role changes
Mourning of the loss of loved ones
